Prehistoric crocodile skull found on UK coast

By Claudia Wagner

The skull of a 130-million-year-old crocodile has been unearthed by a fossil-hunter along the UK coastline.

It was discovered on the coast of Swanage in Dorset by Mr Richard Edmonds after he who spotted the prehistoric predator's 60cm skull poking out of a rock.

Mr Edmonds, earth science manager for the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site team, said: "It's only the second crocodile skull to be found in the area in the last 30 years.â

The Cretaceous-era crocodile is on display at the Swanage Museum and Heritage Centre until September when it will be sent for examination by experts from Bristol University and the Natural History Museum.

If the experts find the skull to be important, it will be donated to a registered museum.

Tag Central

Tag Central was created in 2005 as part of I created it after noticing that 43 Things imported data from other services that are tagged with the same thing. This site aggregates this data from a variety of sources. All one needs to do is provide a keyword that the data should be labeled with.

I moved it to its own domain soon thereafter. Peter Parkes adapted Jon Hicks' Makeover to the site and it was made the default theme thereafter.

And that's how it became the site you see today.
